Iran has a precise and well-defined set of regulations for its international Quran competitions which should be introduced to other countries.
Hassan Zarnoushe Farahani, memorizer of the entire Quran and Iran’s representative in the 4th International Holy Quran Competition in Sudan made the remark in an interview with IQNA, adding that Iranian Quran masters should have an active presence in jury panels of Quran competitions abroad.
He said in Sudan’s international Quranic event, which wrapped up a few days ago, there were variations in judgments because members of the jury panel were not given a set of regulations based on which to judge the performance of the contenders.
Zarnoushe Farahani, who came 5th in the competition, said he did his best and answered all the questions of the jury panel without making a single mistake.
He said Quran experts should decide whether the jury panel was not fair in giving him the 5th title despite his good performance.
The Iranian Quran memorizer said the Malian representative came first while he had one mistake and the memorizers from Sudan and Algeria, who jointly won the second rank, each had three mistakes in their performances.
Zarnoushe Farahani noted that it was the third international Quran competition he has attended. The other two were the international Quran competition in Saudi Arabia in 2006 and Tunisia’s International Quran Award in 2011, in which he came third.
He described the level of Sudan’s Quran Award, both in terms of the number of participating countries and the quality of performances as being higher than the contests in Saudi Arabia and Tunisia.
