Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Asghar Nosrati told IQNA that this policy is sometimes implemented by desecrating the Quran and sometimes by defiling the Holy prophet (PBUH).
Different means are used to carry out the desanctification policy, including movies, serials, caricatures, etc, he said.
Asked what are the intellectual roots of the West’s confrontation with Islam, the academic board member of the Islamic Sciences and Culture Research Center said this confrontation is not a religious approach per se, but has different dimensions.
He noted that the West has an inherent ideological and intellectual animosity toward Islam and based on this animosity design the principles of their confrontation with Islam.
“They sometimes refer to Islam as an invasive thought, whereas this is not the case but the reason behind the West’s confrontation with Islam is the challenge they feel about Islamic thought and ideology.”
Hojat-ol-Islam Nosrati noted that the West tries to prevent the spread of Islam as the religion presents the ultimate program for man’s salvation.
He said the West seeks to hamper the spread of Islam’s true ideas and therefore presents an inaccurate image of the religion.
Historically speaking, he said, there have been several periods in which the West has sought to confront Islam. “First, in the early years after the advent of Islam and when the religion reached the frontiers of the western world, we see the first attack by the West against Islam.”
He said in the second phase, the Crusades happen because of the West’s fear of the increasing interest in Islam.
“The third period began after the Ottoman empire spread west and reached the heart of Europe. And the 4th period that has continued until this day coincided with the victory of the Islamic Revolution and the collapse of the Soviet Union.”
The scholar further said the Islamic Revolution disproved the ideas of Western political schools that claimed religions could not originate social movements and create social uprisings against oppression and domination.
