Int’l Quran Olympiad Begins in Sri Lanka

The first stage of an international Olympiad of the Holy Quran was organized by representative office of Al-Mustafa International University in Sri Lanka.
According to IQNA’s branch in South Asia, the competition was held under the supervision of Hojat-ol-Islam Seyyed Hamidreza Haqiqi, representative of the international university in Galle and some other cities of the country.
500 contestants including school students, Quranic institutes and Islamic centers of the country as well as members of Islamic associations in various cities attended the event on January 27.
Memorization and translation of the entire Quran and 20, 15, 10 and 5 Juzes (parts) of the Holy Quran are the categories of the Olympiad.
About 10% of Sri Lankans adhere to Islam; and there are approximately 5,000 mosques in this country.
