This is according to Izziddin Mayhubi, one of the founders of the radio, who said it was established at a time when radical groups sought to deceive the youth with extremist ideas.
“These groups distort the teachings of Islam for their own benefit and present distorted interpretations to the youth. That was the reason why we decided to bring the fight with terrorism to the media and the first step on this path is introducing true Islam.”
He said the Quran Radio, recently renamed to Sahel Region Radio, broadcasts special daily programs to remind members of radical groups of the dangers facing them.
Mayhubi noted that the radio has been so successful in enlightening members of the radical groups that Al-Qaeda leaders in Islamic Maghrib have banned listening to the radio for the groups’ members.
He further invited top scholars and religious figures to attend the radio’s programs and clarify the true meaning of Jihad and reiterate the teachings of Islamic regarding the sanctity of innocent people’s lives.
