One prominent guest of the event was the leader of Yemen's Hizb al-Haq party, Hassan Zaid, who praised the peaceful revolution of 1979 in Iran.
Hours before the National day event was launched, a press conference by Yemen's interior minister accused Iran of illegally trafficking weapons into Yemen. The accusations was strongly rejected by the Iranian ambassador. Hassan Zadeh told press TV that such allegations are masterminded by the West, especially by Israel - with the objective of creating "Iranophobia."
The Iranian ambassador also accused the West of instigating conflict among Sunnis and Shias across the Muslim world. He said that by keeping the Muslim world in a state of internal conflict - the West will continue its imperialistic ambitions in the region.
Peaceful demonstrations erupted in the streets of Tehran and other Iranian cities in the late 1970s, demanding the downfall of the country's ruler, Mohammad-Reza Shah. The demonstrations eventually led to the victory of the Islamic Revolution on February 10, 1979.
Many of those who attended the Iranian National Day event say the Islamic Revolution of 1979 was the first of its kind in the region to peacefully topple an autocratic regime.
