Iraqi Scholars Warn about Sectarian Protests

Iraqi scholars have warned about sectarian protests in the country calling on the country's judiciary to bring those provoking tension to justice.

In a statement issued yesterday by Iraqi Scholars Association, the country’s scholars severely warned against sectarian protests calling for prompt punishment of the rioters.
“Following the intensification of sectarian protests in the country, it is incumbent upon the judiciary to punish those who have taken up arms and seek chaos in the country”, the statement read.
It also described peaceful demonstrations as lawful, urging the Iraqi government to put an end to violence and sectarian conflicts.
