Ayatollah Mohsen Araki made the remark on Tuesday while speaking at a press conference on the accomplishments of the 26th International Islamic Unity Conference.
He said the committee would work to put an end to the crises in the Muslim world that need mediation.
Pointing to the programs of the Unity Week this year, Ayatollah Araki said the World Day of Holy Prophet (PBUH) was marked in the Unity Week through programs in Tehran and several other capitals.
There were also special programs on Pakistan, India, Iraq and the UK marking the occasion, he said.
He also referred to the 26th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran and said 280 prominent Sunnni and Shia figures from different countries took part at the conference despite all-out attempts by the world arrogance and the Zionists to dissuade scientific, political and cultural figures from attending.
Ayatollah Araki noted that the conference proposed establishment of a society of resistance and proximity scholars, adding that the forum is working on the proposal.
He also said that setting up a peace committee was another suggestion made at the conference.
“21 Islamic world figures make up the committee, whose first meeting is to be held in a few weeks from now in Beirut, capital of Lebanon. We hope it would manage to bring views closer together to resolve the Muslim world crises.”
The WFPIST secretary general added that among other proposals made at the 26th International Islamic Unity Conference was the establishment of an organization of Muslim women activists to pave the way for greater participation of women in Islamic proximity activities.
He urged everyone to work for proximity among Islamic schools of thought at a time when the enemies are heavily investing in fomenting discord in the Muslim world.
