The diplomacy of unity encourages Muslims, especially Islamic governments, to avoid any action that provides the enemy with the opportunity to infiltrate the ranks of Muslims.
This is according to Ahmad Zarnegar, Quranic affairs advisor to the cultural deputy of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization.
He told IQNA referred to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution’s mentioning of the diplomacy of unity and said verse 103 of Surah Al-e Imran “And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allah (i.e. this Qur'an), and be not divided among yourselves,” orders Muslims to hold fast to the rope of Allah and avoid discord in the face of the infidels, the hypocrites and the enemies.
He said the diplomacy of unity is not meant to separate Shia and Sunni Muslims from their beliefs but what it means is standing united against the enemy.
Zarnegar noted that the diplomacy of unity may have been a mere religious issue in the past but it is now a political issue as well.
He referred to verse 22 of Surah Ibrahim “And Shaitan (Satan) will say when the matter has been decided: "Verily, Allah promised you a promise of truth. And I too promised you, but I betrayed you. I had no authority over you except that I called you, so you responded to me. So blame me not, but blame yourselves,” saying that if Muslims move toward disunity they should blame themselves for it.
The ICRO official stressed that based on the diplomacy of unity, Muslims should avoid actions that create opportunities for the enemy to exploit sectarian differences.
“Muslims should know that their power and grandeur lies in their solidarity.”
He pointed to the sensitive conditions in the region, urging Muslims to exercise insight and vigilance in order to avoid playing in the enemy’s court,
Zarnegar highlighted the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s media in promoting the diplomacy of unity, adding that Iran never seeks to fan sectarian differences.
He also pointed to the unfounded accusations leveled against the followers of Ahl-ul-bayt (AS) by Wahabbis, saying that efforts should be made to counter the propaganda by informing followers of other Islamic sects about the truth.
