At least four civilians were killed and 10 others injured in a car bombing in the eastern Iraqi province of Diyala.
On Tuesday, an explosives-laden car detonated near a market southwest of the provincial capital Baquba, located some 50 kilometers (31 miles) northeast of Baghdad, security sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
The incident took place three days after provincial governor Omar al-Humairi was injured in an assassination attempt in the city.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Humairi, a member of the Iraqi Islamic Party, took office in September 2012.
Violence has increased in Iraq since December 2011, when an arrest warrant was issued for fugitive Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi, who has been charged with running a death squad targeting Iraqi officials and Shia Muslims.
The government has stepped up efforts to boost security across the country over the past few months.
