Morocco to Host "Problematics of Translating Quranic Stories” Conference
The Fourth Religious Texts and Translation International Conference on "Problematics of Translating Quranic Stories: Stylistic, Structural and Semantic Aspects" is going to be held in Morocco on 05-06 March, 2014.
The Research Laboratory for the Holy Quran Translation - University Cadi Ayyad, Dar Al-Hadith Al-Hassania Institute of Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Faculty of the Arabic Language of Al Qarawiyyin University will organize this conference to collect scholars and specialists from different countries to discuss the subject.
Some of the proposed themes for the conference are: Methodological problems in translating Quranic stories, Semantic problems in translating Quranic stories, Stylistic problems in translating Quranic stories, Time of the Quranic text / time of the corresponding translated text: conflict of identities, Quranic stories: editing and re-translation, Quranic narratives: technical components, rhetorical strategies and problematics of translation and Narrative components of Quranic stories: repetition, argumentation, history, the unseen and problematics of translation.
Translators perspectives in generating parallel texts to the original, The role of technology in visually accompanying the translated text, Translating Quranic stories: loss and gain, Conciseness and repetition in Quranic stories and the challenges of translation, Narrative discourse in the Quran: its importance, its aims and ways of preserving it in the target language, Specificity of the character and narrator in Quranic stories, Aesthetics of Quranic stories between the original language and the target language and Aspects of inimitability in Quranic stories are the other proposed themes for the conference.
The conference papers can be presented in three languages, viz. Arabic, English and French and the abstract, participation form and CV must be submitted no later than 30/04/2013.
The paper should be original and should go beyond merely criticsizing previous Quran translations. Models and theories should be explored.
The paper must have a sound methodology reflecting the features of real scientific research.
