The workshop is aimed at preserving the heritage written in Muslims’ languages using the Quranic Script, linking the Quranic script with teaching Quran, Arabic and the Islamic culture, and using the Quranic script to meet the needs of the contemporary society. It is also aimed at training the staff working in the education field and in cultural publishing institutions in new techniques to transliterate national languages in the Quranic script, and incorporating the teaching of national languages in the educational curricula of basic education, higher education and literacy levels.
The workshop will see the participation of experts and professors from Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand and Sudan. The workshop’s program includes theoretical and practical presentations on the plans proposed for a continuous training program throughout the year, which will be implemented as part of a specialized unit for Quranic script (Jawi), to be established in the International Islamic University of Malaysia, and in other academic institutions in Southeast Asia. Also, during the workshop, light will be shed on the software developed by ISESCO in collaboration with the International University of Africa to transliterate texts written in Latin script into the Quranic script.
ISESCO and the FUIW will be represented in this workshop by Dr Mustapha Ahmed Ali, Director of Culture and Communication, who will present a paper on the historical development of transliterating Muslim people’s languages into the Quranic script.
