The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center have slammed the desecration of the Holy Quran by the Zionist regime.
Issuing separate statements, the two called on the Muslim Ummah to take a strong stand against such moves, Al-Sha’ab website reported.
They also urged the international legal organizations to stand up against this act of blasphemy.
Al-Azhar in its statement criticized the world community for remaining silent over such the sacrilegious acts.
It said the move was an insult to the sanctities of over 1.5 billion Muslims and that it ran counter to international laws and human values.
Al-Azhar went on to say urge international organizations to adopt laws banning desecration of the sanctities of Divine religions.
ISESCO in its statement strongly condemned Israeli soldiers’ assault on a number of Palestinian women who were reciting the Quran in a circle-reading session in the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque and desecration of copy of the Holy Quran by kicking it to the ground.
ISESCO stated that this terrorist act must be condemned by the international community for it is incompatible with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and with the freedom of practicing religious rituals which is guaranteed by the international law.
In addition, ISESCO called on Member States to take a firm position vis-à-vis the ongoing Israeli attacks. It also called on UNESCO and international human rights organizations to undertake the necessary action to force the Israeli occupation authorities to adhere to the international law which incriminates such acts and considers the West Bank as an occupied territory with all rights guaranteed by this law to its population.
