Speaking at a ceremony held in Karbala on Tuesday to unveil the new Zarih, Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi Karbalayi appreciated the 6-year endeavors of Iranian artists and artisans for building it.
Sheikh Karbalayi described the Zarih as a beautiful work of art and hailed the installation of the Zarih in the holy shrine in less than two months.
The ceremony was attended by thousands of pilgrims who chanted the slogan Labayk Ya Hussein (AS).
Representatives from different provinces of Iraq as well as delegations from Iran, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, India and Pakistan were also present at the function.
The Zarih, which was built in the holy city of Qom in six years, weighs 12 tons, Baratha news agency reported.
Gold, silver, precious stones and 5 tons of wood have been used to construct the artwork.
Previously, Hassan Palarak who heads the Headquarters for Reconstruction of Atabat Aliyat (holy Shia sites in Iraq) described the new Zarih as one of the most beautiful Zarihs ever built, noting that much effort had been put in making it from artistic, technical and structural aspects.
Palarak said that the Zarih was designed by prominent Iranian miniaturist Master Mahmoud Farshchian and top masters in the fields of calligraphy, Monabbat (wood-carving), Ghalam-zani (toreutics, metal-working), etc have worked on the Zarih, which measures 22.86 meters in area.
