An Egyptian Qari Who Is Successful in Both Medicine, Quran Recitation

IQNA – Salah al-Jamal is an Egyptian physician who has made achievements in the field of Quran memorization and recitation.

In an interview with Nafi' Al-Taras on the ‘Citizen and Official’ program of the Shams satellite TV channel, al-Jamal detailed his Quranic life from the village of Aweesh Al-Hajar in the Dakahlia province of Egypt to achieving international fame.

He emphasized that memorizing the Quran at an early age was a turning point in his life and the blessings that accompanied him on this path helped him combine his medical education with serving the Holy Book.

Al-Jamal stated that he memorized the entire Quran in his home village of at the age of 10 and achieved second place in a nationwide completion at the age of 11.

He explained that the main turning point in his life occurred in 1995, when he traveled to South Africa to pray during the nights of Ramadan. There, he unexpectedly found himself in an international Quran recitation competition, where he won first place.

The Egyptian reciter stated that this fortunate event opened new doors for him, leading to frequent trips abroad to revive the nights of Ramadan, and his name became associated with live broadcasts on Quran Radio.

He also said that the Egyptian government honored him upon his return and opened the doors of Egyptian Radio to him. He was able to take the radio exams and passed them successfully on the first attempt. Then the radio committee gave him a training course in the field of Quran recitation skills, after which his radio activity in the service of the Book of God began.

Al-Jamal emphasized that his medical career did not conflict with his Quranic life path, as he enrolled in the Cairo Medical School, and after seven years, he graduated and specialized in general surgery, then opened his own clinic in the Imbaba area of ​​Cairo.

The Quran reciter stated that his employment in medicine and work did not cut off his connection with the Quran.

He explained that he considers himself interested in the Quran, not a professional reciter in the commercial sense, and despite his education and professional responsibilities, he performs daily recitation consistently.

Referring to his daily schedule for combining medicine and the Quran, al-Jamal said that he dedicates his night hours to prayer according to his ability and circumstances, and recites three to four parts of the Quran daily.

He emphasized that this type of life shows that success in more than one field is possible when a person maintains his goal and makes the best use of his time.

He went on to say that the Quran has been present in his life alongside his medical education, career, and radio work.
