Speaking in a meeting with members of the Assembly of Experts on Thursday, Imam Khamenei gave a comprehensive analysis of the Iranian nation’s astounding progress in the past 34 years and the challenges lying ahead.
His Eminence said having a long-term view in moving toward the aspirations and objectives of the Islamic Establishment is necessary, stressing that faith in Islam, relying on the people, and enhancing the spirit of hope are among the main factors for continuation of the forward move, gaining greater accomplishments and surpassing the temporary obstacles.
Imam Khamenei added that in a long-term view, there is accurate understanding of the path of movement and of the enemy, and, therefore, problems and ups and downs are predictable.
The Supreme Leader stressed that if there had been no such long-term view in the course of the Islamic Revolution, it would have failed but the late Imam Khomeini (RA) stood firm, relying on strong faith and hope in the future, and the struggles resulted in victory despite all hardships.
His Eminence described the current conditions as being more difficult and complex than the struggle against the Pahlavi regime in the pre-revolution era, saying that under the current conditions, it is necessary to move away from a short-term view and strive to guarantee the progressive movement of the Islamic Establishment with faith in Islam and hopeful spirit and relying on the people.
Imam Khamenei referred to booting the spirit of hope in people, especially among the youths, as one of the duties of the scholars and the clergy, adding that the spirit of hope should constantly be promoted, especially because there are many signs for hope, including the continued and growing accomplishments of the Iranian nation.
His Eminence referred to the current greatness and intellectual centrality of the Iranian nation in the Muslim world, the dominance of religious discourse in the country, the scientific and technological advances of the country, the Islamic Establishment’s political and international influence, and the justice-based infrastructural measures taken in the country as outstanding achievements that would be unimaginable before the victory of the Islamic Revolution or immediately after it.
Imam Khamenei regarded these achievements as signs of the progress of the Islamic Establishment, saying that another sign of progress of the establishment was the enemy’s panic and anger.
His Eminence pointed to the nuclear issue and the sanctions as the two challenges facing the Islamic Establishment, saying that the challenges have not been and will not be to the detriment of the establishment.
The Supreme Leader said the sanctions were aimed at pitting the nation against the Islamic Establishment but people’s massive presence in the February-10 rallies marking the victory anniversary of the Islamic Revolution dashed the hopes of the West.
His Eminence underlined that people’s participation in the upcoming presidential elections will also be significant and influential.
Imam Khamenei described elections in the Islamic Republic of Iran as one of the best, most free and most standard elections in the world, adding that those who seek to run for president should have the required criteria and capabilities.
Prior to the Supreme Leader’s speech, president and vice-president of the Assembly of Experts Ayatollah Mahdavi Kanni and Ayatollah Yazdi presented reports on the assembly’s semi-annual meeting.
