The issue was brought up in a meeting between Iranian Cultural Attaché Mohammad Hossein Mozaffari with George Kalegis the deputy director for religious affairs in Greece’s Education, Sports and Religious Affairs Ministry.
Mr. Kalegis said according the new legislation, those seeking to be employed by the government need to get the approval of each region’s Mufti.
He also said that the issues of the Muslim minority will be resolved by the Muslim Mufti and not by the civil court, something that can be taken as an example by other European countries.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Kalegis referred to the historical relations between Greece and Iran, saying that the two nations have played a major role in the world’s history and culture.
Iran’s Cultural Attaché, for his part, said that the two countries have always taken steps in line with the peaceful coexistence of followers of different faiths.
Mr. Mozaffari also referred to the presence of Muslims in Greek airports and urged that a special place be considered for Muslims to say their prayers.
