Fifth national edition of New York’s Quran Memorization Competition is planned to be held on September 5-6 in Brooklyn.
According to isa-nys website, the contest is organized by the Islamic Schools Association (ISA) of New York in two categories of memorization and recitation.
It will be held for students in an attempt to encourage them to get further acquainted with the teachings of the Holy Quran.
A jury panel made up of Quran experts will judge the event and that the first three top winners will be awarded.
In 1996, a group of Islamic School Principals met at the Annual Nonpublic Schools Administrators’ Conference in Albany. While most nonpublic schools in New York State, both religious and independent, were united under a state chartered organization, Islamic Schools stood alone.
There was no recognition or representation for Islamic Schools collectively at the State level. After persistent and diligent efforts of the founders, the New York State Board of Regents granted the Islamic Schools Association of New York a charter in March, 1999.
ISA works to ensure that the views of Islamic schools, as well as Muslims, are more accurately and effectively represented and expressed to the education community.
ISA also provides a forum to encourage, promote, and enhance communication and collaboration among elementary, middle, high schools, and home schools that emphasize the teachings of Islam to their students.
