It is the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s natural right to have a permanent seat in the UN Security Council.
This is according to OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu while speaking at a conference in Saudi Arabia titled “Horizons for Cooperation among Muslim Countries in the Coming Three Years”.
He said the OIC a is the only representative of 1.5 billion Muslims in the world and is the second largest political entity in the world after the UN.
“Therefore, it is a natural right for the organization to have a permanent seat at the UN Security Council.”
Ihsanoglu also said that the organization has made a lot of achievements in recent years and that it plans to pave the way for Palestine to become a member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNSECO).
He added that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation seeks to promote contemporary international values such as benevolence, respect for human rights, religious freedoms, equality, protection of women’s rights and democracy.
He went on to highlight the organization’s role in coordinating views in the UN human rights council about confronting religious biases.
