Kirgizstan’s grand Mufti called on Muslim leaders of the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) to improve Islamic education in their countries.
Speaking at a forum titled “CIS Muslims, Proponents of Peace and Development”, Rahmatollah Igamberdiyev said it is time for cooperation among Islamic leaders and scholars of CIS member states to set up a joint center for Islamic and Quranic education.
He said it would be difficult for Muslims of the member states to progress in religious affairs without establishing such a center.
Igamberdiyev noted that there are many institutions and organizations in these countries established with the so-called aim of promoting Islam but they actually work to spread divisions and discord in the Muslim Ummah.
The forum was held in Baku, the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Monday and Tuesday, April 15-16.
Muslim leaders and scholars as well as representatives of Islamic institution from countries like Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan took part at the two-day forum.
