500 Scholars Expected in “Islamic Ummah’s Scholars and Islamic Awakening” Conference

Over 500 scholars from different parts of the Muslim world are expected to take part in the international conference of “Islamic Ummah’s Scholars and Islamic Awakening”.
Secretary general of the Islamic Awakening World Assembly Ali Akbar Velayati made the remark in a press conference Tuesday morning at the Baqer-ul-Olum (AS) research center in Tehran, adding that 200 Iranian scholars will also take part in the conference.
He presented a report on the previous conferences held on the theme of Islamic Awakening, saying that since 2011 when the Islamic Awakening movement began in Arab countries, especially in North Africa, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, as the harbinger of Islamic Awakening in contemporary era”, gave the good news that the uprisings were Islamic in nature and would be a source of dignity of the Islamic Ummah.
“With the beginning of the movement, the first conference (on Islamic Awakening) was held in September 2011 with the participation of Muslim scholars from 80 countries and the General Assembly of the Islamic Awakening Conference was established.”
He said so far several international conferences have been held about Islamic Awakening, namely conferences on “Women and Islamic Awakening”, “Youths and Islamic Awakening”, “Poets and Islamic Awakening”, and “University Instructors and Islamic Awakening”.
According to Dr Velayati, the upcoming conference will be the most important one in the series of Islamic Awakening conferences.
“The issue of Syria will be brought up in the conference,” he noted, saying that Syria is the main axis of resistance against the Zionist regime and that the West is trying to undermine the resistance movement by weakening Syria.
Later in the press conference, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri, Secretary of the Conference of “Islamic Ummah’s Scholars and Islamic Awakening, gave a speech, in which he hoped that the conferees will have good discussions with the aim of better directing the Islamic Awakening movement.
He also said that according to Islam, all the development in the Islamic society should be supervised by the Ummah’s scholars.
Another speaker was Hojat-ol-Islam Karimian, Executive Secretary of the conference, who said over 350 papers have been submitted to the event’s secretariat.
“Theoretical foundations of Islamic Awakening”, “role of scholars in Islamic Awakening”, and “Holy Prophet (PBUH), pivot of unity” are among the themes of the international conference, he went on to say.
