The Foreign Minister in Lebanon’s caretaker government said Hezbollah is not involved in military activities in Syria.
Adnan Mansour made the remark in a radio interview, adding that Hezbollah forces have been deployed in areas near the Syrian border only in order to defend the Lebanese.
He underlined that Lebanon is committed to the policy of staying away from the Syrian crisis and will not interfere in the affairs of other countries, including Syria.
Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement has also denied accusations that the group supports the Syrian army in its fight against the rebels.
In other news, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has sent his Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov to Beirut for talks with Lebanese officials about the situation in Syria.
Before travelling to Lebanon, Bogdanov met with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Tehran and praised Iran’s positive role in enhancing stability and security in the region.
The Russian foreign minister further underlined that Moscow’s stand vis-à-vis the Syrian crisis remains unchanging.
