Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution condemned the desecration of a holy site in Syria and said Muslims should continue to react to this sacrilege.
Imam Khamenei made the statement in a meeting with officials in charge of holding the upcoming presidential and municipality councils elections, adding that the evil Takfiri current is a tragedy for the Muslim World.
His Eminence said that what makes intensifies the bitterness of this incident is the existence of wicked, bigoted and backward thoughts among some in the Muslim Ummah who consider revering eminent figures of the early days of Islam’s history as Shirk (polytheism) and Kufr (disbelief).
Imam Khamenei described such superstitious ideas as a tragedy for the Islam and Muslims, saying “These are people whose predecessors destroyed the tombs of Imams (AS) in Baqi’i and if it hadn’t been for the widespread uprising of Muslims against them, they would have destroyed the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) shrine as well.
“What kind of thought is this that does not consider worshipping and following the living Taghouts (tyrants) as Shirk but regards revering the great figures as Shirk?”
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to the appropriate reaction of the great Shia community to this incident and said Shi’ites did not fall trap into the enemy’s plot that was aimed at inflaming conflict between Shia and Sunni.
His Eminence also considered the Sunni brothers’ reaction as demonstrating their high insight and awareness, stressing that Muslims must continue to react to this bitter incident because if scientific and intellectual figures and political elites of the Muslim world fail to fulfill their responsibility, the Fitnas (seditions) will spread.
Underlining that the enemies’ involvement in such actions has become clear, Imam Khamenei criticized international organizations and political figures who make a scene about destruction of a heritage site but have remained about this brazen sacrilege.
Elsewhere in his statements, the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution pointed to upcoming elections in the country and said the active participation of people in the polls on June 14 will guarantee the continuation of the country’s progress.
His Eminence pointed to some attempts to dissuade people from taking part in the elections, saying that these attempts have failed in the past and will get nowhere in the future as well.
Prior to Imam Khamenei’s speech, Secretary of the Guardian Council Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati and Minister of Interior Mohammad Najjr presented reports about preparations for the June 14 elections.
