Mohammed, son of the late national Islamic leader Imam W.D. Mohammed, visited Fayetteville last weekend as one of the featured guests at a national business conference at Masjid Omar Ibn Sayyid and Smith Recreation Center.
"I don't sympathize with them one iota,'' he said of the accused Boston Marathon bombers. "They are horrible, horrible people. They committed one of the biggest sins for a believer and for a human being, to take the life of another human being.
"That is something that should never be done.''
What Mohammed thinks is most important for people to understand, and what he urges true Muslims everywhere to do, is share the message that Muslims are a gentle and peace-loving people.
"God creates life. And we should value life above all things.''
Mohammed said he does not know enough about the background of the two accused Boston bombers to judge them, but he knows that somehow they became damaged.
"That is why we should organize, like other faiths, and look after the future, and know what's going on with our young people, no matter what background they come from,'' he said. "We need to view our young people as an investment because they are our future.''
