A battalion of Syria’s special forces has been tasked with providing security in Zeynabia and protecting the holy shrine of Hazrat Zeynab (SA) in Damascus.
The battalion has been formed following threats made by terrorists about attacking the holy site, Al-Alam news network reported.
It has managed to provide full security for the area, including the nearby power plant, which has been a prime target for terrorists.
Meanwhile a number of armed terrorists were killed by Syria’s government forces in Husseinya region on the outskirts of Damascus on Thursday.
Syria has been scene of deadly unrest since March 2011 which has claimed the lives of thousands of Syrians including a large number of Syrian soldiers and security forces.
The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the armed militants are foreign nationals, mostly from Egypt, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, and Afghanistan.
