Friday prayer leader of the holy city of Najaf, Iraq, commemorated the martyrdom anniversary of Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Baqer Hakim.
Hojat-ol-Islam Seyyed Sadreddin Ghobanchi in his Friday prayer sermon said Ayatollah Hakim played an important role in leading the Iraqi people in their efforts to topple the Ba’thist regime of Saddam Hussein.
Elsewhere in his sermon, Hojat-ol-Islam Ghobanchi censured the Israeli attack on Syria and urged the international community to put an end to foreign meddling in Syria’s internal affairs.
He regretted that the international community accuses Iraq and Hezbollah of sending forces to Syria but has remained silent over the fact that thousands of armed terrorists have entered Syria to topple the country’s government.
He added that what is going on in Syria is an ethnic conflict not a political one. The cleric also called for preventing Takfiri groups from desecrating Muslim sanctities in Syria.
Hojat-ol-Islam Ghobanchi underlined that if the holy shrines are attacked by ignorant groups, nations have a right to take action to protect their sanctities and react to the attacks.
