Calligraphy of the world’s largest Quran copy is underway in Iraq by a group of Iraqi artists, Al-Yawm Al-Sabi daily reports.
The group seeks to register the work in the Guinness World Records after its calligraphy is completed.
The Iraqi artists started calligraphing the copy a year ago and so far have completed one-third of the work.
Hussayn Al-Khirsan, one of the calligraphers, said that after completion, the copy will be 5.5 meters long and 1 meter wide. “9 tons of paper will be used for the work,” he added.
Al-Khirsan noted that the group spends more than 15 hours every day for the calligraphy and embellishment of the pages.
According to the Iraqi artist, the large Quran copy had been planned to be unveiled at the inauguration of the “Najaf, Cultural Capital of Islamic World” plan, but the inauguration was postponed.
Currently, a Quran copy made by Iranian Ali Reza Sattari has the title of the world’s largest Quran copy, according to the Guinness World Records. It is 4 meters in length and 170 centimeters in width.
