Integrating the judgment regulations in international Quran competitions will improve the level of fairness in judgments an Iraqi Quran expert said.
In an interview with IQNA, Ali Ramadan Al-Awsi added that the assessment methods should be such that fairness is ensured in these contests.
He said international Quran competitions, which are held in different categories such as recitation, memorization, and interpretation of the Quran, are the result of joint cooperation among Muslims and aim to foster the teachings and culture of the Holy Quran.
“Individuals from different countries take part in these contests to realize the objective of promoting the Quranic culture,” he noted.
Al-Awsi underlined that the Book of God has a lofty status among Muslims and that they should make endeavors to make Quranic all aspects of their lives.
The Iraqi scholar who resides in London and teaches at The University of Islamic Sciences in the city further referred to the importance of disseminating information about international Quran competitions.
He said that a lot of efforts are made and a lot of expenses are spent to successfully organize such events and, therefore, there should be sufficient media coverage to inform people about them.
Asked about the participation of un-qualified contestants in international Quranic events, Al-Awsi said it should be prevented by the organizing committees. “The committees should collect enough information about those who are going to be sent to the contest.”
He also suggested that preliminary competitions be held in order to only select those who are qualified to be sent to the international competition.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iraqi Quran expert suggested that the Islamic Republic of Iran hold Quran competitions in European countries, a move that can inform the public opinion in Europe about Iran’s Quranic capacities.
He said the Islamic Center of London is ready to cooperate with Iran in organizing such a Quranic event and host it.
