The French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) issued a message to French Muslims urging them to prevent young Muslims from falling to the trap of radical groups.
Mohammed Mousawi, head of the council said French Muslims must prevent their young children from joining extremist groups who are sacrificing Islam for their own interests.
Referring to the two recent attacks in London and Paris, he regretted that the perpetrators have claimed to be Muslims and have attacked innocent people in the name of Islam, whereas Islamic teachings oppose such actions.
He urged the media not to use the word “Islamist” for those who perpetrate such crimes because people like these are Muslim only in name whereas they have no knowledge of the teachings of Islam.
Mousawi went on to say that French Muslims should follow the true teachings of Islam to foil the extremists’ agenda.
Recently, a man stabbed a uniformed French soldier while on an anti-terrorism patrol in western Paris.
Earlier, a 25-year-old British soldier, was run over by a car in London and then stabbed to death.
