Quran Recitation Contest Held in Russia

The first Quran recitation contest for children and teenagers in Irkutsk region of Russia was held on June 1.
According to IQNA’s branch in Europe, the competition was organized by the Office for Muslims’ Religious Affairs in Russia and Irkutsk Grand Mosque.
Sponsored by Russia’s Muftiat Council, the contest was held for children less than 15 years of age.
The 30 participants of the contest were the children who have been attending Quran recitation and memorization courses held by the mosque during the last two years.
Mufti of Irkutsk announced that encouraging Muslim children and teenagers of the region to learn reading and memorize the Holy Quran’s verses was the main objective of the contest and officials of Islamic organizations of the city plan to continue holding such a contest.
Scholars and intellectuals of the city, the staff and custodians of the mosque and parents of the children were also present at the contest.
