Top Participants in Awqaf Organization’s Quran Memorization Plan Honored

A ceremony was held on Sunday, June 2, in Tehran to honor the top participants in the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization’s Quran memorization plan.
It was held on the sidelines of the 30th International Holy Quran Competition with the participation of Culture Minister Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini and a number of other cultural and Quranic officials.
Hojat-ol-Islam Sharafkhani, cultural deputy of the Awqaf Organization, in an address to the program said that after the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution urged for development of Quran memorization in the county, the organization started its activities in line with Imam Khamenei’s commands.
“One of the activities was implementing the plan for training Quran memorizers in over 28000 religious sites including mosques.”
He said over 238000 individuals took part in the plan’s Quran memorization courses. “In order to select the top participants, we held two examinations, an oral one in March and a written exam in May.”
According to Hojat-ol-Islam Sharafkhani, upon the completion of the courses, 76,000 participants managed to memorize two Juzes (parts) of the Holy Book and 93,000 learned one Juz of the Quran by heart.
He said in the next year’s plan, thematic memorization of the Quran, featuring ethical, social and other themes will be on agenda.
The Culture Minister also addressed the event, referring to the demise anniversary of Imam Khomeini (RA) and elaborating on Imam Khomeini’s (RA) close relation to the Quran.
He said the international Quran Competition is an opportunity for the contestants to learn more about the characteristics of the late founder of the Islamci Republic of Iran.
Hosseini also underlined that the Islamic Establishment’s strength is rooted in Quranic teachings.
Elsewhere in the program, eminent Egyptian Quran reciter Mahmoud Yahya Al-Sharqawi recited verses from the Holy Quran.
