Malaysia to Open the 56th National Quran Recitation Competition

A total of 29 qari and qariah will participate in the 56th National Al-Quran Recital Competition at Kompleks Islam Darulnaim, Lundang, Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is expected to open the five-day competition with the theme 'Moderation the Pillar of Muslim Unity' on June 10.
Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) Director-General Datuk Othman Mustapha said winners of the national qari and qariah titles will receive RM15,000 each and trophy.
"The champions will each also receive a Proton Preve sponsored by Tabung Haji," he said in a statement in Putrajaya, Thursday.
They will also represent Malaysia at the International Al-Quran Recital Competition, he added.
The first runners-up will receive RM10,000, the second runners-up will receive RM7,000 while others will receive RM3,000 consolation prize.
"The Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V is scheduled to close the contest and give away the prizes," he said.
Othman said besides reciting the Quran, the event would also include nashid performances, seminar, exhibition and quiz for visitors.
It will be carried live over TV1 from 8.30pm to 11pm as well as on Jakim Web TV at www.islam.gov.my.
