Speaking at a forum titled “Economic Epic and Economic Plans of the Best (presidential) Candidate”, Hojat-ol-Islam Seyyed Hossein Mirmoezzi added that such ideas will undermine economic and social justice in society.
The forum was organized by the International Quran News Agency (IQNA) to review the economic plans of the candidates running in the Islamic Republic of Iran’s 11th presidential election.
Hojat-ol-Islam Mirmoezzi said if justice is overlooked because of prioritizing progress, the society’s low-income population will be faced with problems.
“Those who favor such ideas (giving precedence to progress) say we should first achieve progress and then try to uphold justice. What will happen in reality is that some people in society will get rich and the rest very poor.”
He said in that case, wealth should constantly be taken from the rich and given to the poor. “In other words, the poor will always be dependent on the rich and this runs counter to principles of Islamic-Alawi economic.”
The scholar stressed that today justice-based models of progress and development have been introduced in economics.
He further said presidential candidates must work for maintaining national unity and solidarity in order to realize the political and economic epic (the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution has named the current Iranian calendar year as the Year of Political and Economic Epic).
Member of the Supreme Council of Islamic-Iranian Model of Progress also said presidential nominees should present economic programs revolving around resistance economy and economic Jihad.
