Speaking to IQNA, Hashem Soltannejad, who is 32 years old, said he started learning the Quran by heart in childhood but at first only memorized small Surahs of the last Juz (part) of the Quran.
By 1997 he had only memorized 5 Juzes but then deiced to memorize the entire Quran and achieved that in just five months.
Soltannejad said one of his friends recommended going to a Quran instructor but he continued his own style of memorization because it had been successful.
He urged those who want to memorize the Quran to first learn about Arabic grammar and also to try to strengthen their relations with the teachings of the Quran.
He noted that diligence and benefiting from an experienced Quran master will be very helpful for those seeking to learn the Quran by heart.
Soltannejad further said Quran competitions provide an opportunity to identify Quranic talents in the country.
Asked about the level of contestants in the 30th international Holy Quran Competition, he said in the memorization category there are good contenders because memorization has a good status all over the Muslim world even in countries like China where Muslims are not the majority.
“This is while in Quran recitation, there are a few countries like Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc, that have very good reciters.”
The Islamic Republic of Iran’s 30th International Holy Quran Competition was held from May 31 to June 7 in Tehran. Representatives of more than 70 countries took part in the international event.
