During the ceremony, which was attended by Sultan Mohammad V, governor of Kelantan, winners of the three top titles in men’s and women’s groups received their awards, Bernama reported.
The contest had been held from June 10 in the city of Lundang with the participation of 29 reciters who had made it to the final round.
The motto of the national competition was “Moderation, Foundation of Unity”.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak had underlined the need for Muslim unity and said Malaysian Muslims should enhance their solidarity in support of Islam.
He had also said that Muslim should strive to not only memorize and recite the Quran but also learn and implement the Holy Book’s teachings in their lives.
