According to Al-Bayan newspaper, Ibrahim Muhammad Bumelha, head of the organizing committee of the competition said that in recent years many different categories have been included in the contest.
He added that the international competition has been organized in 10 various categories with the aim of identifying and introducing top Quran reciters in the UAE and other countries.
The Competitions Section, Media, the Office for Financial and Official Affairs, Center of Researches, Public Relations Office and the Center of Quranic Sciences will cooperate with the committee to organize various programs of the contest.
The top Islamic figure of the year, who has provided valuable services to the Holy Quran and Muslims will be introduced and honored on the sidelines of the competition.
Specialized seminars in different languages with the participation of Muslim scholars and preachers have also been planned by the organizing committee as other sideline programs of the contest.
Sheikh Yusuf Estes, an American Muslim preacher and teacher who converted from Christianity to Islam in 1991 was honoured with the "Islamic Personality of the Year Award" by the 16th Dubai International Holy Quran Award in August 2012.
