Syrian scholar Dr Sheikh Mohamed Rateb Al Nabulsi upheld the humanitarian principles of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in his lecture ‘Humanitarian aspects of Prophet Muhammad’s character’ on Thursday night.
The first in a rich cultural program of 22 lectures, the lecture was part of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, 17th session at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“Islam deals with man in a comprehensive way, paying attention to body, soul, mind and will without prejudice to any aspect.”
Al Nabulsi added that Islam set and protected human rights more than 14 centuries ago. “Islam has affirmed man’s rights in life, dignity, thinking, religion, education, learning, and security.”
Dr Nabulsi said some people thought they had the same rights and duties as everyone else, while others believed the opposite and held discriminating attitudes which led to disputes. “Prophet Muhammad instructs his followers to adopt only one standard for all.” Humanity is one of the main aspects of Islam that has made a utopian reality. “Human beings are created from one father and mother, Adam and Eve, as affirmed by the prophet who said: ‘I bear witness that all humans are brothers and sisters irrespective of their differences’.”
Dr Nabulsi said humanitarian fraternity was enhanced by faith. “To believe in one God makes people closer and more attached than just being equal as humans.
“Prophet Muhammad has affirmed that one’s faith shall remain incomplete or imperfect unless we treat others how we prefer to (be treated) ourselves.”
The cultural programme runs from July 10 to 27, with lectures beginning at 10.30pm every night after the Taraweeh Prayer. Those who attended could be in line for valuable prizes.
The 11-category award, which is aimed to serve the Holy Quran and promote the general standard of the Quranic performance, is to see, as of July 17, 89 contestants of the over 160 countries contacted from across the world to participate in the competition held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
