Awaiting the Savior, Shiites’ Greatest Asset
Awaiting the Savior is an honor and the greatest asset for Shia Muslims, a new Shia convert said.
Speaking at a program in the Rahyaftegan (converts) Section of the 21st International Holy Quran Exhibition, Anna Juana Meloderuto, an Italian convert to Shia Islam said she embraced Islam after meeting with an Iranian who would become her husband.
She said before converting, she would always feel there is something missing in her life and that she would look for something to fill the vacuum she felt.
“Those things that I was taught in Europe did not fill the vacuum, what did was Islam that I found and believed in,” she said.
Ms Meloderuto said since she learned about Islam, the world changed for her and she found many values that are not seen in the West. “This is not my feeling only, but that of thousands of non-Muslims who converted to Islam.”
Elsewhere in her remarks, the Italian Muslim pointed to the issue of Imamate in Shia Islam, saying that Imamate is the school of learning Divine teachings.
She said the concept of awaiting the Savior is the main part of Imamate, describing the culture of awaiting as hope and an honor for Shia Muslims.
“There is no such belief in the West and the western youth have no hopes as they do not believe in a principle such as awaiting the Savior.”
Asked what encouraged her to remain steadfast in her new path, Islam, despite all the hardships she faced, Meloderuto said her role model in life are Imam Ali (AS), Imam Hussein (AS) and the Holy Prophet (PBUH). “When one’s role models are such characters, one will never regret the path they have chosen and will continue on the path. I am sometimes insulted and harassed but I endure these hardships.”
She further pointed to the spread of Islam in Europe despite widespread anti-Islam propaganda and said Islam is a religion that attracts many.
Elsewhere in her remarks, Meloderuto referred to the martyred Italian convert Edoardo Agnelli, saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran has done a lot to introduce the character of Agnelli and his life.
