Translation of Quranic, Islamic Works into Local Languages, A Step for Promotion of Islam
Translating Quranic and Islamic works into local languages in different countries helps to promote Islam in these countries.
Muhammad Shahed who is in charge of Myanmar Pavilion at the Culture of Nations Section of the 21st International Holy Quran Exhibition made the remark in an interview with IQNA, adding that by translating religious works into local languages, those who are not familiar with the source languages can benefit from these books and learn more about the teachings of the Holy Quran and Islam.
He said the pavilion has displayed translations of the Quran and religious books into different languages to inform the visitors about efforts made by translators to foster Islamic values and teachings.
Shahed noted that one of the books on display is the translation of Ayatollah Mohammad Taqi Bahjat into Burmese language.
Asked about Quranic activities in his country, Shahed said Muslims are facing many problems and impediments because Myanmar is a Buddhist-majority country. “Nonetheless, they try to spread the Quranic and Islamic culture by holding Quran recitation sessions and courses for teaching the Quran and Quranic sciences.”
He referred to the current status of Muslims in the South East Asian country, saying that Muslims living in border areas are not given Myanmar identity cards and are treated as foreigners.
Shahed said Muslims’ conditions have worsened in the past year and the government has not taken sufficient steps to put an end to violence against Muslims by extremist Buddhists.
