According to Dar Al-Khaleej newspaper, Ibrahim Bumelha, head of the committee said that various stages should be passed for selection of the person and this year’s candidate for the award has been introduced to Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashed Al Maktum, the UAE’s Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to be approved.
The winner of the award will be announced at a press conference in the coming days.
The prestigious Islamic Personality of the Year is awarded every year to a person or an institution having a history of service to Quran and Islam. Last year prominent Islamic preacher from the US Yusuf Estes won the award.
Over the years, the award has been conferred to luminaries of the Islamic world like Shaikh Yusuf Al Qardhawi, Murad Hoffman, Shaikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais and many others institutions like Egypt’s Al Azhar University and King Fahad Quran Printing Complex.
Bumelha added that the international contest is underway with the participation of young Quran reciters and memorizers of the Islamic Ummah who have been presenting good proficiencies in Sowt and Lahn.
The fourth night of the competition was held with contestants from France, Mauritania, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Finland, Central Africa, Uganda and Togo.
The 17th Dubai International Holy Quran Awards began on July 16 under the supervision of Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashed Al Maktum.
Milad Asheqi represents Iran in this edition of the international Quranic event.
