Quran Recitation, Memorization Competition kicks off in Najaf
The first edition of a national Quran competition began in the holy city of Najaf, Iraq, on Thursday, July 25.
According to the information dissemination center of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Ali (AS) holy shrine, the Supreme Committee for Reviving Ramadan Activities has organized the contest.
Hosted by Al-Qarawiya School in Najaf, the contest is held in the categories of recitation and memorization of the Holy Quran.
Head of the committee Sheikh Ahmed Jassim Al-Najafi said representatives from 14 provinces of Iraq are attending the Quranic event.
He said except for the provinces of Najaf and Baghdad, each with four representatives, other provinces have each one representative in recitation and one in memorization.
He said prominent Quran masters including Seyyed Qassem Al-Hilw, Sheikh Abulhassan Al-Basri and Hajj Rafi Al-Ameri are present in the jury panel of the contest.
Last year, the Astan of Imam Ali (AS) held a Quran memorization and recitation competition at the provincial level.
