They said Mubarak was flown out of the prison by helicopter on Thursday, Al-Mayadeen news network reported.
Mubarak will be under house arrest, according to Egypt’s interim prime minster Hazem Al-Biblawi.
His office said in a statement that based on the emergency law, the military’s deputy commander has ordered Mubarak to be kept under house arrest.
A court in Cairo ordered Mubarak to be freed after two years in jail on charges of financial corruption.
He is still facing a trial for his involvement in killing protesters in the 2011 revolution that led to his overthrow.
Mubarak’s release could intensify the current crisis in Egypt which started after the army removed former president Mohamed Morsi from power.
Morsi’s supporters have named today, August 23, as the “day of martyrs” urging Egyptians to hold rallies all over the country in protest to the ouster of Morsi.
Security forces have arrested hundreds of Morsi supporters in recent days to put an end to several weeks of protests and chaos in the Arab world’s most populous country.
In a crackdown on protesters, 900 individuals, including 100 army soldiers and police were killed on Wednesday, August 16.
