3rd Int'l Quran Memorization Competition Kicks off in Tunisia

The third session of the Tunis International Quran Memorization and Recitation Competition entitled "Session of Sheikh Mohamed Ben Yaloucha" started Saturday morning in Bardo and will continue until August 29.
Forty four candidates from 24 countries including Egypt, Palestine, Turkey, Niger, Indonesia, Iran, Qatar, Russia and Arab Maghreb Union countries are taking part in the competition.
Prizes will be awarded to the winners next Thursday, August 29, along with certificates to participants in this competition whose programme includes essentially conferences and tours for foreign participants.
On this occasion, Interim Prime Minister Ali Larayedh stressed the importance of this competition dedicated to young people, given its comprehensive content and nature, in addition to its role in strengthening ties of brotherhood among Muslims.
"This competition aims to encourage future generations to memorize and recite the Holy Quran and spread the values of self-control, assurance in action and thought and sacrifice for the sake of science and knowledge", he said.
Minister of Religious Affairs Noureddine Khadmi said this international competition is part of the consolidation of the action of memorization and teaching of the Quanic text in Tunisia.
The inaugural session was attended by the Mufti of the Republic, the Minister of Human Rights and Transitional Justice, the President of the Higher Islamic Council and the President of the League of Koran Associations, besides a large number of ambassadors of Arab countries accredited in Tunisia, Imams and Scholars of Ezzitouna.
