Possible US Intervention in Syria Would Be a Catastrophe
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khamenei described a possible US intervention in Syria as a catastrophe.
Speaking in a meeting with President Rohani and his cabinet on Wednesday, Imam Khamenei added that a possible attack would certainly be to the detriment of the US just like its interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
His Eminence underlined that the meddling of trans-regional and foreign powers in a country will have no result but inflaming the situation in that country and deepening its people’s hatred.
Imam Khamenei also said the Islamic Republic of Iran condemns the killing of unarmed people in Egypt.
The Supreme Leader underlined the need for avoiding a civil war in Egypt, which would be a catastrophe for the Muslim world and the region.
His Eminence urged for returning to democracy and the people’s vote, noting that after years of suffering under a dictatorship, thanks to the Islamic Awakening the Egyptian people held a healthy election and that the democratic process cannot be stopped.
During the meeting, which was held on the occasion of the Government Week, Imam Khamenei also elaborated on the criteria for a favorable government, urging Hojat-ol-Islam Rohani’s cabinet to give priority to science and to economy.
His Eminence referred to justice, serving people, ideological, ethical and economic health, fighting corruption, abiding by the law, and intellectuality as some of the criteria for a favorable government.
The Supreme Leader said the statements, stances and guidelines set by the late Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) that manifest the Islamic Revolution’s principles and values present the criteria commitment to which will bring about development and a bright future.
Imam Khamenei further urged the government to benefit from the good potentials of the Iranian experts in all fields and underlined the need for relying on the domestic potentials.
His Eminence said relying on domestic potentials does not mean closing one’s eyes to the outside but the point is that one should not pin hope on the outsiders.
Imam Khamenei further stressed that economic issues and the country’s scientific development are the main priorities of the country that should be paid special attention by the executive power.
His Eminence referred to the creation of good economic infrastructures in the country in the past 10 years and said with these infrastructures the government should work to create stability in the market, curb the inflation and develop national production.
The supreme leader said these immediate measures will be the beginning of the Economic Epic that was emphasized in the New Year message at the beginning of the current year.
Imam Khamenei noted that achieving an economic epic is a long-run objective and no one who is fair in his judgments expects the government to resolve all economic problems in a short time.
His Eminence also pointed to the country’s rapid scientific progress that started ten years ago and stressed that this progress must not stop.
Prior to the Supreme Leader’s statements, Hojat-ol-Islam Rohani elaborated on his administration’s domestic and foreign approaches and the regional and international developments.
He said the main approach of the government in the domestic arena is creating security in all areas for establishing calm in society and realizing people’s citizenship rights.
He also pointed to the meddling of foreign powers and the chaotic situation in the region and said despite these conditions, Iran has stability, calm and national security but the enemy tries to affect the society through political and economic pressures.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the present thanked the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution for his supports and appreciated the Majlis for its cooperation in giving votes of confidence to the cabinet members.
