Khalil Hamdan, representative of Lebanon’s Amal movement, made the remark in a ceremony held in Tehran on Tuesday, September 3, on the 35th anniversary of the abduction of Imam Musa Sadr.
The ceremony was organized at Enghelab Hotel on behalf of Nabih Berri, head of the Amal Movement.
Hamdan welcomed the participants and said the ceremony marks the 35th anniversary of the abduction of Sadr and his two companions by the former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
He said the abduction was a crime unprecedented in history because Sadr and his companions went to Libya on an official invitation by the Libyan government.
He noted that after the overthrow of Gaddafi, the crimes committed by his regime were mentioned one after another but the abduction of Sadr was left out.
Hamdan, who heads the Lebanese committee for pursuing the fate of Imam Musa Sadr, said the case of Sadr’s abduction is still open and that the Amal Movement is working with the Libyan government and has called for cooperation to secure the release of Sadr.
He criticized lack of cooperation on the part of the new government in Libya and said ties between Lebanon and Libya will not improve until the fate of Sadr and his two companions is determined.
Hamdan also urged Iran’s government to make endeavors to determine the fate of Imam Musa Sadr.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Khalil Hamdan underlined that Lebanon is committed to its pledge to confront the Zionist regime and that the issue of Palestine will remain the number one priority for Lebanon and the country’s Islamic resistance movement.
A number of officials and political figures including Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought Ayatollah Mohsen Araki and Lebanon’s Ambassador to Tehran were present at the ceremony.
mam Musa Sadr and his two companions were kidnapped in August 1978 during an official visit to the Libyan capital, Tripoli, to meet with officials from the government of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
