Zarif Meets with Ammar Al-Hakim, Stressed need for Preventing Another War in Region

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed regional issues with Sayyed Ammar Al-Hakim, head of the Supreme Islamic Council of Iraq.
In his first foreign visit as foreign minister, Zarif entered Iraq on Sunday, September 8, and met with several Iraqi officials, Aswat Al-Iraq news agency reported.
During the meeting with Al-Hakim, Zarif hailed the common stances of Iran and Iraq against sectarian Fitna (sedition), extremisms, and war on Syria, saying that it is necessary to prevent another war in the region.
He also commemorated martyr Sayyed Mohammad Baqer Al-Hakim and late Sayyed Abdul-Aziz Al-Hakim and highlighted the role of the Al-Hakim family in enhancing unity and solidarity in the Iraqi society.
Sayyed Ammar Al-Hakim for his part congratulated Zarif on his appointment as Iran’s new foreign minister and hoped for deepening and expansion of bilateral relations.
He also condemned the recent chemical attack in Syria and rejected any form of military intervention in the country.
