A possible US attack on Syria would lead to the strengthened role of terrorism, Iran’s ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan warned.
Speaking to IQNA, Mohsen Pakayin said that just like the US invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan led to the empowerment of Al-Qaeda, a strike against Syria would bring about a stronger presence of terrorists and Takfiri groups in the region.
He warned that a possible war will not be limited as the US is trying to sell and that once started, its end would be unpredictable.
Mr. Pakayin noted that such a war would inflame the region, adding that the consequences of an attack would be very costly for the West and Israel.
“The project called US war with terrorism has had no other results but strengthening the Al-Qeada in the region and a possible war in Syria will just add to this trend.”
The Iranian ambassador to Baku said US military intervention in Syria without UN Security Council authorization would create a kind of anarchy in the international community and institutionalize lawlessness.
He also referred to the rising prices of oil and disruption in transportation of energy as other consequences of a possible war, saying that if war breaks out, Europe will experience a cold winter.
Mr. Pakayin further said that the world Muslims and anti-war institutions and figures will not remain silent over any US aggression on an independent Muslim country and that such an aggression would undoubtedly inflame anti-American and anti-Israeli sentiments in the world.
As for the US objectives, he said that by imposing a civil war and violence in Syria in the past two years, Washington has been seeking to boost the Zionist regime and prevent its decline.
He underlined that by weakening Syria, the US officials want to remove it from the axis of resistance and enhance Israel’s security.
