Secretary-general of the society Sheikh Ali Salman said most Bahrainis want the current government to be replaced by a new one based on the nation’s will, Al-Wefaq website reported.
He referred to the statements by United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay and the statement by 47 countries condemning the crackdown on people in Bahrain, saying that these statements prove the violation of human rights and the crackdown on people by the ruling regime in Bahrain.
Sheikh Salaman voiced concerns about the continuation of human rights violations in Bahrain and urge the rulers of the country to avoid any more violence.
47 countries signed a statement in Geneva, Switzerland, last week, expressing deep worries about the human rights situation in Bahrain.
They criticized the continued pressure on revolutionaries in Bahrain who only demand the right to express their view freely.
Bahrain, home to the US Navy's 5th fleet, has been the scene of demonstrations since mid-February 2011. Bahrainis demanded political reform and a constitutional monarchy, a demand that later changed to an outright call for the ouster of the ruling Al Khalifa family following its brutal crackdown on popular protests.
