Syrian People’s Support for Assad Forced US to Retreat
Iran’s cultural attaché in Kazakhstan said it was the Syrian people’s support for Bashar Assad that forced the US to retreat from its position.
Speaking to IQNA, Hojat-ol-Islam Saberi said the Syrian people proved that they were not the type that give in to threats and that they will resist any aggression.
He also said the United States and its allies were not sure about the success of a possible strike on Syria.
Hojat-ol-Islam Saberi referred to the presence of Takfiri groups in Syria as a reason why the US did not carry out its threat of military intervention. He added that in case of the overthrow of Bashar Assad, there would have been a possibility that Takfiri groups rise to power in Syria and that would have endangered the US interests.
The Islamic Republic of Iran’s cultural attaché in Kazakhstan further stressed that the real support of two regional powers namely Russia and Iran for Bashar Assad removed the threat of war.
Asked about the possibility of a war despite the agreement between Moscow and Washington over the Syrian crisis, he said one should wait for the future decisions made by the US and Israel because Israel is seeking to destroy the front of resistance and safeguard its interests.
He concluded by saying that the US presence in Iraq and Afghanistan showed that Washington has not been able to achieve its goals through military attacks and that the people of the region will not relinquish resistance.
