Egyptian Quranic Figure Dies

Sheikh Mahmoud Amin Tantawi, head of the Review Office of Al-Azhar Quranic Center in Egypt died on Tuesday, September 17.
He died at the age of 83 yesterday morning and was buried in his home village of Mania Al-Qamah in Egypt’s Al-Sharqiya province, vetogate website reported.
Tantawi, who was born on November 30, 1930, learned the entire Holy Quran by heart at an early age.
He served in different positions including as deputy of Egypt’s Union of Quran Reciters.
He was the only Egyptian Quran reciter who served as a jury member in Malaysia’s International Quran Recitation Award for 22 years.
The Quran master also served as a judge in international Quranic events in various other countries such as Saudi Arabia.
Tantawi taught Quran recitation and Tajweed principles in Egypt’s Al-Azhar as well as Quran Teachers training Center in Medina, Saudi Arabia.
He also wrote several books on Quranic sciences, especially Tajweed and recitation.
