Bahrain’s judiciary has summoned Shia scholars who are members of the Islamic Scholars Council of the country to the court.
They are due to appear in a court on the first of October, Bahraini website Sawt Al-Manam reported.
The Persian Gulf country’s Ministry of Justice has called for an end to the council’s activities and considered it as an illegal network (!)
Senior members of the council including Majid Masha’al, Sheikh Mahmoud Al-A’ali and Muhsen Al-Qarifi are among those summoned.
Earlier this month, the office of Bahrain’s public prosecutor had summoned a top Shia al-Wefaq Party leader to court over his anti-government remarks.
Former MP Khalil Marzouk was summoned to court reportedly for “inciting violence” during a speech.
The Bahraini has been the scene of an uprising that began in mid-February 2011, when the people, inspired by the popular revolutions that toppled the dictators of Tunisia and Egypt, started holding massive demonstrations in the Persian Gulf country.
The Bahraini government promptly launched a brutal crackdown on the peaceful protests with the help of Saudi-led Arab forces from neighboring Persian Gulf states.
Dozens of people have been killed in the crackdown, and the security forces have arrested hundreds.
